English has rapidly become a global language. Internationally, various fields including business, tourism, education, research and the Internet communicate in English. This vast expansion of English has heightened the demand for qualified teachers who can successfully teach English as a second language.

At Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU), our Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MATESL) focuses on practical, hands-on education, which teaches graduates the essential skills to become successful educators. By learning about the current theories, methods and materials, MATESL graduates are prepared and ready to teach English as a second language in the classroom.
