The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that HPU’s Master of Arts in Human Resource Management is fully aligned with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. Worldwide, only 67 programs in 62 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative, created in 2006 to help the Society define HR education standards taught in university business schools across the nation and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

HRCI Approved Provider

The Master of Arts in Human Resource Management degree program is now a Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) Approved Provider. With this certification, HPU is now authorized to provide courses for recertification credit for HR professionals who are already certified, as well as for graduate degree seeking students or non-degree seeking individuals working toward certification.

HR professionals who are certified as Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) are required to earn 60 continuing education credits over a two-year period in order to recertify. As an HRCI approved provider, HPU can provide students with options and flexibility to fulfill the continuing education credit requirements.

About the Program

Successful management of an organization’s human capital requires a logical, consistent strategy for moving people into, around, and out of the organization. Human Resource (HR) professionals work other senior managers to ensure that all employees work efficiently and effectively to accomplish the organization’s mission and goals. Generally, HR professionals are expected to be strong subject matter experts in six distinct bodies of HR knowledge: strategic management, workforce planning and employment, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits management, human resource development, and occupational health, safety, and security. Hawaii Pacific University’s MAHRM curriculum is built around these bodies of knowledge, to ensure that students successfully completing our classes are prepared to face and conquer the challenges posed by the growing complexity and competitiveness of the business and economic environments

Options for Working Professionals

At HPU, we recognize the multiple responsibilities faced by working professionals, and offer several options for qualified students interested in continuing their professional education. The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is a concentrated option, consisting of 4 graduate-level HR courses. The certificate is an option for HR professionals or professionals in other fields who already possess graduate degrees, or who need to update their skills and training. The master’s degree prepares students for their first HR management positions, and consists of 12 graduate-level courses in human resource management, information systems, organizational behavior and change, sustainable human systems, and law. Courses in both the certificate program and the master’s program are taught by our nationally and internationally recognized faculty, who are well-credentialed, certified HR professionals able to combine solid academic theory and professional experience in the classroom setting.
