Otsuka_Patricia

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing Inc., headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, has selected Dr. Patricia Lange-Otsuka, associate professor of nursing at Hawai'i Pacific University, to participate as a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) item writer in a development panel session held in Chicago, March 10 through 13, 2002. As an item writer, Dr. Lange-Otsuka created questions or items that are used as part of the NCLEX.

Dr. Lange-Otsuka was one of 120 nurses from across the nation to be selected for this prestigious assignment. She was nominated by the Hawai'i Board of Nursing on the basis of her background and nursing expertise. Dr. Lange-Otsuka is certified as an adult health and adult critical care nurse, and as a community health clinical nurse specialist. She joined HPU in 1992 and is currently the coordinator of the graduate nursing program.

The national council is responsible for developing and administering the NCLEX examination for all nurses in the U.S. and five U.S. territories. The examination identifies those candidates who demonstrate minimal competence to practice nursing at the entry level. Passing the NCLEX examination is one of the requirements necessary for attaining a nursing license.
