MSW Accredited by CSWE

It is with great pride that we announce that the HPU Master’s of Social Work (MSW)  program has achieved initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE)!

This is a significant achievement, which required a great deal of work on the part of many people, chief among them Dr. Mary Sheridan, the Program Chair of the Social Work Department. Dr Sheridan wrote a thorough, extensive self-study of the program which was submitted to CSWE, and she arranged for a site team from CSWE to come to HPU to confirm the credentials of the program.

Accreditation is extremely important to a social work program (not to mention difficult to obtain). It affirms that the program meets the rigorous standards of CSWE. Additionally, now HPU joins the list of accredited social work programs that prospective students search when deciding upon a program to attend. This will enlarge the pool of potential students interested in attending HPU’s Social Work program.

Lastly, and perhaps most important to our students, the accreditation of the program allows graduates of HPU to sit for social work licensure examinations, both in Hawaii and any other state.
