FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Apply for admission. It is recommended that you apply for admission before you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must be accepted for admission to the University in order to receive your initial award letter.
- Apply for financial aid. The best way to complete the FAFSA is on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Apply for a pin number first if you do not have one. When you file your FAFSA, be sure to say "YES" to "do you want to sign electronically" if you want to do everything on time. If you should need a paper FAFSA form you can get a copy from any High School guidance counselor or university. The first day you can file is January 1. To assure maximum consideration for all forms of aid, the FAFSA must be received by the federal processor on or before HPU’s priority deadline of March 1. HPU's federal school code is 007279. Normal processing time is two weeks.
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you filed FAFSA electronically you will receive an e-mail with your student aid report (SAR). or If you filed a paper FAFSA you will receive your SAR in the mail at your home address. Please make sure to review the SAR, make changes and provide additional information as required. Please do not send sent your SAR(s) to the Federal Student Aid Program Office without notifying us. The Financial Aid office must be advised of all corrections to your SAR(s) as you make them so we can make timely corrections to your award letter(s). As a rule of thumb, submit your corrected SAR to the Financial Aid office rather than the federal program office.
- Request for additional documents/verification. You may receive a letter from our office asking for further information needed to complete your processing, e.g., signed student and/or parent federal tax forms, Verification Form, etc.. Respond to our request quickly so we can send your financial aid award to you in a timely fashion.
- Responding to your Financial Aid Award. You will receive an e-mailed financial aid award letter in your HPU Pipeline email account. It will instruct you to respond to your financial aid award in the financial aid section in Campus Pipeline before the deadline indicated on your letter and will advise you of any further documentation you should complete, if necessary. Your financial aid award is determined on the information you originally gave us when you applied for financial aid. If you should have a change of status or if you should receive additional scholarships, please let us know immediately as it may affect your financial aid.
Call the HPU Financial Aid Office anytime you need help. The Financial Aid office on the downtown campus (main office) is staffed by: the Director, Associate Director, four Counselors, an Office Manager and a Customer Service Representative. IMPORTANT: Aid from federal programs is not guaranteed from one year to the next. You must reapply every year. Also, if you change schools, your aid is not automatically transferred with you. If you transfer from another institution, you must notify the HPU Financial Aid Office of your Data Release Number (DRN) which is listed on your SAR. After receiving your DRN, the SAR data will be electronically accessed by the Financial Aid office for processing.
