Summer 2007 is proving busy for HPU’s School of Nursing faculty.

HPU’s Transcultural Nursing Center (TNC) Director Dr. ReNel Davis, Assistant Dean of Nursing Dr. Patricia Burrell, and TNC Diversity Recruitment Director Lynell Rogers will make a presentation at the 32nd Annual International Transcultural Nursing Conference in Bourmemouth, England, in September.

Interim Assistant Nursing Dean Dr. Hobie Feagai is not only presenting her dissertation on the use of humor in teaching at the Australasian Conference in New Zealand, she is along traveling to American Samoa in August to teach part of an NCLEX review course for the local community college.

Dr. Burrell will also be presenting two papers at the Australasian Conference.

Dr. Missy Marineau, associate nursing professor, is participating in a three-week trip and cruise to Russia, hosted by Sigma Theta Tau, to present her dissertation work and look into partnering with Russian nursing researchers. Dr. Marineau also wanted to say a special mahalo to the HPU nursing students who assisted with the community health fair part of the article, “Culturally Sensitive Strategies Designed to Target the Silent Epidemic of Hepatitis B in a Filipino Community,” which was published in the Hawaii Medical Journal in June.

Assistant Nursing Professor Dr. Betty Kohal will present her thesis work, “Fitness to Stand Trial: A descriptive/Comparative Study of Fitness Interventions in State Forensic/Psychiatric Hospitals in the United States,” at the 20th Annual American Psychiatric Nurses Conference in Orlando, Florida, in October.

Jeanine Tweedie and Verna Hanashiro, both assistant nursing professors, attended a Geriatric Nursing Education Summit in Portland, Oregon, sponsored by the Hartford Foundation and the Association of Schools and Colleges of Nursing (ACCN). They are tasked with keeping HPU’s gerontology content on the cutting edge.
