The Hawaiian names for these scholarships represent the values and traditions of the people in Hawaii, as well as the people around the world. It embodies the hope Hawai`i Pacific University (HPU) has for all students, especially the recipients of these scholarships. We trust that the recipients will be leaders as they continually seek the knowledge (‘ike) during their years of education at HPU and also appreciate the gift (makana) of education and the generous hospitality of the Hawaiian people.
Description: These selective and limited tuition waiver scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman who will graduate from high schools on the U.S. mainland. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: Information provided on the Admission application along with the high school transcript will determine the criteria and eligibility of the scholarship. Debate Scholarship
Description: This tuition waiver scholarship is awarded to entering high school graduates or entering transfer students who are interested in participating with the HPU debate program. The program also offers tuition waiver scholarships to Graduate Assistants as debate coaches. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 supported by a current official transcript and intent to pursue one of the degrees offered by the HPU College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Scholarship Period: Renewable for up to three (3) years. Scholarship Amount: Up to 50% Deadline: April 8, 2010 Application Form: Available November 2009
Kalamalama Journalism Scholarship
Description: This tuition waiver scholarship is offered to entering high school graduates or entering transfer students. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 supported by a current official transcript, intent to pursue a degree in Journalism or Strategic Communication (advertising/public relations) and a career in these or a related communication industry. Also requires a 10-hour per week work assignment with the staff of the University newspaper, Kalamalama, as journalists or advertising sales assistants. Scholarship Period: Renewable for up to three (3) years. Scholarship Amount: Up to 50% Deadline: April 8, 2010 Application Form: Available November 2009
Allen and Nobuko Zecha Scholarship
Description: Awarded to incoming freshman; high school graduates. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: A high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 and scoring in the top 10% on the SAT, ACT, or international equivalent tests; or being in the top 3% of graduating class. Majoring in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Pre-Medical Studies, and 3-2 Engineering. Scholarship Period: Offered each academic year. John H. Payne Scholarship
Description: Awarded to incoming freshman; high school senior or college transfer (maximum 31 college credits). Harry S. Komuro Scholarship
Description: This tuition waiver scholarship is available to students who are dependent children of an ordained minister in one of the following church denominations: Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church, United Methodist Church, or United Church of Christ.
