Services and Resources Offered from International Student Services (ISS)

Once you have arrived at Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU), our job is to ensure that your stay in the U.S. is smooth with regards to maintaining your student status. International Student Services (ISS) is the department that serves the needs of the international student population at Hawai‘i Pacific University. With more than 1,600 students from over 100 countries around the world, international students and scholars will find a variety of services and activities to meet their needs at HPU. Some of the many services and resources that we offer are:

International Student Handbook

The International Student Handbook and other orientation materials provide information such as useful definitions, contact information, important resources, and practical advice. This handbook is a useful tool for students to familiarize themselves with life in the United States and at HPU. This handbook is updated yearly. Use the link located at the bottom of the page to access a copy of this handbook.

Updates

Updates of current information regarding immigration-related regulations and policies are provided from our office. Our goal is to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information that pertains to international students. Since International Student Services receives the most current updates, it will be in your best interest to seek information from this source regarding your
F or J status.

Assistance With Forms and Letters

Assistance with forms and letters can be provided in the following areas:

  • Verification of full-time enrollment for scholarship or government purposes.
  • Invitations for families to visit during an upcoming graduation.
  • Communication to consulates or embassies regarding visa applications.
  • Endorsement of employment eligibility forms (social security).

Advising and Support

  • Designated School Officials (DSO’s) are available to provide advising and support with the adjustment to the U.S. or to the University. The staff is available to answer questions about American culture, to listen if you are feeling overwhelmed with your new surroundings, or if you just need someone to talk to or refer you to an appropriate department.

  • DSO’s also verify employment eligibility for on-campus or off-campus employment. International Student Services is the only office on campus that can authorize an international student to work.
