NUR 3943: Transcultural Nursing: Kalaupapa, Molokai

This course serves as an introduction to the application of the concepts and processes of nursing in a transcultural and global context. Students will apply Transcultural Nursing Theory in order to study and establish transcultural rapport and communication with the people of Kalaupapa, Molokai. In addition to classroom presentations and discussions, the student will come together with clients and caregivers living at Kalaupapa in order to enable the student to develop the knowledge and skills to provide culturally congruent care. This will be done through the use of participant-observation field study and service learning while visiting Kalaupapa, Molokai.
NUR 3953: Gerontological Nursing Lab (Web-enhanced course)

This course will consider the adult from maturity to death. Knowledge of gerontology will be incorporated into nursing assessment, care and service learning. The clinical experience will incorporate activities of daily living, comfort, safety, and quality of life within the cultural context of the family. Practice settings will include senior community residences, support groups, and other community agencies.
