The University annually conducts a statewide writing competition for juniors and seniors attending public and private high schools in Hawai'i.
The subjects for competition are political, economic, or social development that has had a significant impact on the history of Hawai'i and its relevance towards understanding the complexity of life in our state today.
Student-submitted essays must be typed and double spaced with a maximum of five (5) pages. The essays will be judged on originality, analysis, vocabulary and syntax, expressiveness, and the student's ability to defend his/her thesis.
Essays must be received or postmarked no later than: deadline extended to February 15, 2010.

The competition winners receive a cash award funded by the University in the following amounts:

First Place Winner: $500

Second Place Winner: $300
|

Third Place Winner: $200
|

The recipients and family members will be guests at the Hawai'i Pacific University Scholarships and Awards Banquet in which the winning students will receive a cash award along with a certificate.
