Undergraduate
Individuals wishing to take an undergraduate class for professional or personal growth, or students not planning on receiving a degree from Hawai'i Pacific University, but wish to take a course for credit may apply as a special status student.
New undergraduate special status students may take up to a maximum of 15 credits at HPU. After 15 credits a student must either apply as a degree-seeking student, or file a general petition to remain as a special status student. Special Status students are not eligible for financial aid of any type. To register, download and complete the Special Status Application and bring it to the Office of the Registrar.
International
International students applying from their home country may also qualify for this non-degree program, but must apply as study-abroad students.
Graduate
Individuals who wish to take a graduate level class for professional or personal growth, or who are not planning to receive a graduate degree from Hawai'i Pacific University, may apply as a special status student. Credits earned as a special status student may be applied to a graduate degree program if students elect to be degree seeking.
Graduate Special Status students may take up to 12 credits at HPU. After 12 credits, a student must apply as a degree-seeking student. Special Status students are not eligible for financial aid of any type. To register, download and fill out the Graduate Special Status Application, with proof of a bachelor's degree, and deliver to the Center for Graduate and Adult Services, 1164 Bishop Street (UB building), Suite 911, Honolulu, HI 96813 (downtown campus). To provide proof of a bachelor's degree, students must submit a copy of their transcripts with their degree conferral.
