"HPU taught me skills in analytical thinking, which I discovered to be very important in decision making. I put my skills to the test after I received my security clearance to work as an Intern for the State Department in Washington DC.
From the very beginning of the internship I was putting in 12-hour days of entry-level diplomatic work. I worked closely with the US Ambassador to the European Union. I met Secretary Powell, and observed - first hand - the distress caused by the attack on Sept. 11th.
My semester in Washington was filled with quick-paced work preparation. I learned that time management is key, and it certainly helped to have developed my skills in critical thinking, as it was important for me to prioritize.
I'm happy to be back in Hawaii continuing my studies. I am enjoying the peace of the island but still strive for intellectual challenges. Right now I am working as the consultant editor for HPU's student Journal: 'The Voice'."
