| In order to be considered for admission, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent or have started a college degree with above average passing grades.
The level of courses you can take at HPU depend on your educational background and your English proficiency. Courses for upcoming semesters are posted at least three months in advance of the beginning of each term. Typically, courses numbered 1000-2900 are open to high school graduates or first year college students. Courses numbered 3000-4990 are reserved for students who have completed at least their second year of college. Graduate courses (numbered 6000 and above) are open only to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Go here for semester dates.
Application
Although HPU has no set application deadline, we recommend that you send your application early to allow sufficient time for processing and to ensure that you will receive your visa in time.
TOEFL or equivalent test is required for this program!
- Complete an application form for the Study Abroad Program.
- Pay a $50.00 non-refundable application fee.
- Pay a $200.00 non-refundable Study Abroad Pre-Registration Deposit
- Submit a signed copy of the HPU Statement of Financial Sponsorship Form which is part of your application form.
- Mail an original or certified copy of a bank statement showing that you (or your sponsor) have an account which holds sufficient funds to cover the total estimated costs, which are $28,564 for the 2009/2010 academic year; or $14,860 for one fall or spring semester.
- Submit test results from any English proficiency test recognized by HPU. Note: If the applicant has not met the minimum language requirements for admissions, they will need to enroll in ELS Language Center program. Completion of level 112 will be necessary for full enrollment at HPU; however, once a student reaches level 110 and above, they may begin taking HPU courses concurrently.
- Submit a certified, translated grade report listing all courses (with grades) you have already completed at current college or university.
Note: If your test scores do not meet the level set by the university, you will be required to take ELS courses. How many ELS courses you have to take will depend on your test results. Students placing at an advanced level may take both ELS and academic courses concurrently, while students with medium to low test scores may have to be full-time ELS students.
Important! If you receive government funding, and/or want to transfer HPU courses back to your home university, you should take an English proficiency test in your country and submit the results (original or certified) along with your Study Abroad application. Submission of acceptable test results exempts you from taking ELS courses and ensures that you will be able to pre-register and enroll in academic courses.
