- American Journalism Review
- AJR, by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, evaluates the media and the impact technology is having on journalism.
- American Press Institute
- API provides high-quality resources for practicing journalists, including news articles, writing tips, and seminar information.
- FACSNET: improving journalism through education
- The mission of FACS is to improve the quality of information reaching the public through the news. Links are arranged under the following categories: Headlines, Reporting Tools, Issues, Sources, and JournEd (journalism education/training).
- Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc.
- This is a highly-recommended journalism site that offers quick access to databases, model investigative stories, current background information, and features links to affiliated sites. Some areas are restricted to IRE members, but student membership is currently only $25.
- Journalism.org: Research, Resources and Ideas to Improve Journalism
- Created by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and the Committee of Concerned Journalists, this site provides very extensive research resources, journalism tools, professional guidelines, and links to other journalism sites.
- Newspaper Association of America
- "The Association focuses on six key strategic priorities that collectively affect the newspaper industry: marketing, public policy, diversity, industry development, newspaper operations and readership." NAA ia a great source for statistics in its field.
- Reporters' Resource
- The National Press Club Online provides this excellent "Library" tool. It is well organized into the standard information and data sources, and is highly recommended for journalism students.
- RobertNiles.com
- Robert Niles, a professional journalist, provides handy information on "Finding Data on the Internet," understanding and using statistics ("Statistics Every Writer Should Know") and useful "Reporting Resources."
- Student Press Law Center
- Here are support services for high school and college journalists about the importance of the First Amendment. Check out the resource center area, with its FAQ, and the current edition of the Student Press Law Center Report, which includes coverage of ongoing cases involving student publications.

- AEJMC Conference Papers
- Provides archived copies of conference papers for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, back to 1994.
- Columbia Journalism Review: Resources: Who Owns What
- Here you can find which publications are owned by various media conglomerates. Links are provided to articles on ownership from the Columbia Journalism Review. Also offers timelines of events for six major corporations.
- Committee to Protect Journalists
- CJP is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes "press freedom worldwide by defending the right of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal." They provide statistics and reports about attacks on the press; arranged by country.
- CyberJournalist.net
- For those interested in online journalism and the intersection of news and net, this site offers articles and some useful insights on its "Tips & Tools" and "Great Work Gallery" pages.
- FAIR: Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting
- FAIR is an organization that spotlights bias and censorship in the media. Full-text articles about issues in reportage are available.
- Free Press
- Here is a clearinghouse of online material about media reform in the U.S.
- MediaResource: Linking Journalists and Scientists
- Top science news stories are culled weekly and presented here. Links to other science resources are given and a database of scientists, etc. provides contact people for story information.
- NewsDesigner.com
- Keep on top of current trends in newspaper design, with examples and commentaries. Includes links to US and international newspapers and various design blogs.
- NewsWatch: views on the news
- A centralized resource offering links to a deeper understanding of the media. Links to the nation's top critics provide inside analysis of the news and reviews of accuracies and inaccuracies of reporting. It also includes guides to some of the more well-known academic, institutional, and watchdog sites at the bottom of the page.
- Newswise
- This comprehensive resource provides a database of press releases for universities, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and corporations. Registration is required, the use is free.
- Online Journalism Review
- This resource evaluates the emerging field of online journalism. By the Annenberg School of Communication.
- Pew Research Center for the People and the Press
- Survey results about public interest on major news stories and opinion-pieces on political and social values. Survey reports coverage starts in 1989 and datasets from the surveys start in 1997.
- Religion Newswriters
- This Website of the Religion Newswriters Association features stories about religion, research links, an FAQ about religion writing, help in finding a resource speaker, and more.
- Stats at George Mason University
- STATS claim they check the facts and figures behind the news to bring quality and reliability to the reporting of statistics. Reports started in 1994.

- Journalism Ethics Cases Online
- A variety of cases illustrate the ethical issues facing journalists.
