Federal Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

Before you withdraw, graduate, or drop below half-time attendance (regardless if you plan to transfer to another school), regulations require that you complete an exit counseling session. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans after college.

1. Exit Counseling is completed online using the USA Funds Student Transition Guide for undergraduate students or Grad Guide Exit Counseling for graduate students.  You will need to create a USA Funds user ID and password if you do not already have one.
   
   
2. You will be able to view your cumulative loan data, specific to you, not just for loans you have utilized at HPU but at other schools as well.  *Not all loans may be listed based on specific lenders, but you will have the option to manually enter additional loans you choose.
   
   
3. After you successfully complete online Exit Counseling, you will be able to print notification that you have completed the process and provide documentation to the Finanical Aid Office.  This information is required prior to the Financial Aid Office signing off on any Petition to Graduate for any student that has received financial aid at HPU.
   

Some important information for exiting borrowers:

• You can view your loan information with the National Student Loan Data System.  This information will show your loan history and current loan balances.  The student access portal can be found at www.nslds.ed.gov
  
  
• If you have received funds through the Perkins Loan Program, YOU MUST complete a separate Perkins Exit Loan process with the HPU Business Office.  Perkins loan funds are borrowerd directly from the University and ARE NOT included in the Stafford Loan Exit Counseling process.  Contact the HPU Business Office at (808) 356-5265 or by email at businessoffice@hpu.edu
