Psychology Student, Caitlin Macy
Caitlin Macy Wins National Psi Chi Award!

Psychology graduate, Caitlin Macy, (BA, spring 2008) was selected to receive the 2008 "Kay Wilson Leadership Award for Outstanding Chapter President" from the Psi Chi National Office for her service as President of the HPU Chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for Psychology.  With over 1000 active national chapters, this award is all the more exclusive and prestigious and is one of the highest awards an undergraduate psychology student can win within the discipline. 

Caitlin served as president from May 2007 until graduating in May 2008.  Under her leadership, she gathered the other officers and got them rolling on all sorts of activities.  Events that Caitlin was instrumental in working on or initiating include the monthly Psychology Program Symposiums that were held, our Peer Support Program, and the 2nd Annual Psychology Program Conference and Awards Dinner Banquet, where she received three awards and recognitions including being named the co-recipient of our Outstanding Student of the Year Award.  Caitlin also conceived of and started the Psychology Peer Tutoring Program, which links up students needing tutoring for any psychology course.  

 

Caitlin also served as the Vice President of the Psychology Club, which was named by Student Life and ASHPU as the "Club of the Year" at the 2008 Club Awards Banquet, where they also picked up the "Best Event" award for the Psychology Conference.

Caitlin graduated with a 3.8 overall and 3.9 Psychology GPA, is a President’s Host, and a recipient of the Bossert Scholarship. She served as a research collaborator with area research psychiatrist, Dr. Stefan Bracha, authoring a text chapter and other articles on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  She plans to continue her education by gaining entry into a clinical psychology program.

Application Process

Admission to Hawai'i Pacific University is based on academic ability and potential for success at the graduate level. Academic ability is evaluated by the applicant's past academic performance, recommendations, and performance on the GMAT (required for MBA). Although not required for admission, professional work experience as well as involvement in organizational or community activities may be used in the evaluation. A comprehensive approach is applied in the consideration of an applicant and involves evaluation of multiple criteria No one factor will exclude an applicant from consideration. The University is seeking students who have demonstrated the ability and motivation to do graduate level work.

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or an equivalent degree from another country. All applicants must submit certified copies of their postsecondary work showing completion of the undergraduate degree, plus two letters of recommendation. These letters should be from professors, counselors, employers, and others who can attest to your attainments and potential for success at the graduate level.

Applicants who have not satisfied prerequisite requirements may still apply to the graduate program. However, prior to beginning certain graduate-level courses, students may be required to complete the required prerequisite courses.

The University has a rolling admission process and reviews applications throughout the year. In order to ensure adequate time for evaluation and correspondence, it is strongly recommended that applications be submitted early.

When reviewing an application for graduate admission, the Admission Committee considers several factors including:

  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  • Undergraduate grade point average.
  • Letters of recommendation
  • GMAT/GRE results (if applicable)
  • Work experience (if applicable)
  • Personal statement/essay questions

All applicants must submit the following documents to the address shown below:

  • A signed and completed application form (to download form, please click here).
  • U.S. $50.00 nonrefundable application fee
  • An official/certified transcript from every college or university attended, showing course work, grades, and conferral of bachelor's degree.  Official transcripts must be sent directly from the college or university to Hawai'i Pacific University.  Applicants may also submit official transcripts in unopened enveloped sealed by the college and university.
  • Personal Statement /Essay describing your academic and career goals
  • Resume (optional)
  • Applicants to Hawai'i Pacific University's MBA program who have taken the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) should have their scores sent directly to the Graduate Admissions Office.

Additional Requirements for International Students:

  • Have official copies of transcripts sent directly from your postsecondary school or testing authority, including an English translation.
  • Submit a completed and signed Hawai'i Pacific University Statement of Financial Sponsorship Form (enclosed with this application).
  • Submit an original or certified copy of a bank statement or letter showing that you, your sponsor, or guardian(s) have an account which provides sufficient funds to cover one year of study at Hawai'i Pacific University. (This is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Immigration and NaturalizationService).
  • Have official TOEFL scores sent directly to Hawai'i Pacific University.
