In his third year as the HPU Cheer Coach, Garrin brings passion and creativity to the Program as well as extensive experience competing and coaching. Garrin is originally from South Florida and has served as NCA College Staff Head Instructor for 9 years. He served as the Head Coach at Florida Atlantic University from 1999-2001 with a NCA Championship in 1999. His opportunities continued as a member of the Cheer Team at Stephen F. Austin State University for three years with one as Captain. Stephen F. Austin State University Cheerleaders were NCA Division 1 Champions in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. It was during this time that Garrin and his stunt partner were recognized as 2004 Universal Cheerleading Association Partner Stunt Champions. Garrin’s coaching experience rounds out as former head coach at McNeese State University (2001-2002) and as head coach at Kilgore Junior College (2005-2006).

HPU's National Champion cheerleading squad has been honored with six national championship titles under Garrin's coaching leadership including NCA Division II, Coed Champions, 2007 and 2008; Division II Small Coed Champions, 2007 and 2008; UCA All Divisions, All Girl Stunt Group 2008; NCA All Divisions, All Girl Stunt Group 2008

  COACHES CORNER

Spring 2009 Coaches Corner:  We, who are the true champions... only the true champions know who is the true champion. Only candidates for true championship may COMPETE for the true championship.  We at HPU will always be “TRUE CHAMPIONS” and no one can ever take that away from us!

Winter 2009 Coaches Corner:  Winter break is already here. I am looking forward to returning in the spring with the teams along with our brand new debut of the all girl cheerleading squad! I hope you all will have a fantastic break, and remember to keep working on improving your current skills and obtaining new ones. The program is always evolving and I will expect more each semester from all of my athletes new and returning! Be sure to wish our 5 coed couples and 3 all girl groups good luck as we travel to UCA College Nationals on January 16th to defend our all girl stunt title along with our attempt to capture the coed title for the first time at HPU!

Summer 2008 Coaches Corner:  Aloha Guys & Girls! Camp is right around the corner. College cheerleading camp is our debut for Hawai`i Pacific University cheerleading for the 2008-2009 season. We will meet in Las Vegas in July for Work Week (four long days of practice) followed by NCA UNLV College Camp. We need to have a stellar performance during camp because this sets the tone for our new season. As well, our work ethic and attitude affect the opinion our peers have of HPU’s programs. YOU are HPU now, and I expect everyone to maintain a championship image at all times! I encourage everyone to stay active and in shape and come to Las Vegas ready to work hard! Work week is four long days of practice where we will be training all of the skills needed to stay one step ahead of our competition, but in a very short time frame. Be sure to keep stretching, conditioning, tumbling, and maintaining your endurance because camp can be strenuous and taxing on your bodies! Have a great summer, stay safe and I look forward to meeting you all in Las Vegas! Mahalo!
