Hawaii Pacific University’s Service Learning Program responds to the following areas of need identified by the Hawaii/Pacific Islands Campus Compact: health education and promotion, senior care, and environmental stewardship.

This initiative is a cross-curricular collaboration of the School of Nursing, Social Work Program, College of Natural Sciences, and College of Communication. In addition, this initiative fosters collaborations between at least 28 faculty, 500 students, and over 130 community agencies statewide to provide service to the community.

Community Partners Directory
The HPU Service Learning Community Partners Directory is designed to give students and faculty a vital link to local community partners who have expressed an interest in having HPU students volunteer at their organizations.

Our Programs

The Coastal Observation Program (COP) will track changes in carbon dioxide accumulation and ocean movements in Kaneohe Bay and will use effective environmental communication strategies to make
this data available to public and policy makers at state, national, and international levels.

The Health Promotion and Education Project will involve sophomore and senior student nurses in community health promotions and both individual and group health education activities.

The Senior Care Project will assist seniors with health information, activities of daily living, interactive contact, discharge planning, case management, counseling, and other activities to enhance healthy aging.
