HPU's National Champion cheerleading squad is comprised of male and female athletes highly skilled in areas such as gymnastics and partner stunting. The squad promotes school spirit for HPU athletic teams and can be seen performing at HPU volleyball and basketball games and at various community events. The squad also attends a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camp and competition.
Tryouts, both live and by videotape, are held every spring, and tuition scholarships are available for incoming HPU students and current cheerleaders. Live tryouts for the 2009-2010 teams will be held in April 2009. Please check back in November 2008 for more details about tryouts. |

Small Coed Savanna Sibley Las Vegas, Nevada
Savanna is a graduate student in Communications at Hawai`i Pacific University. She completed a degree in Justice Administration at HPU in May 2008. Savanna was a member of HPU Large Coed in 2006 and moved over to Small Coed and helped lead them to two of their four titles in 2007 and 2008. She will return this fall to her 3rd year as captain of Small Coed. Savanna has been successful at HPU balancing school (with a 3.85 cumulative GPA for undergraduate), cheerleading, work and her personal life. Amazingly, she does all of this with a huge smile on her face and a great attitude! Savanna was also the 2008 NCA Collegiate national partner stunt champion this past season. She shocked the cheerleading crowd with her incredible stunts, and her amazing performance to win the national title. |

Large Coed April Huliganga Kihei, (Maui), Hawaii
April is returning for her fourth year on Hawai`i Pacific University’s Large Coed team. April is one of our few “true locals from Hawaii” and she brings her aloha spirit to the program. Her work ethic, showmanship, and sweet personality are second to none on Large Coed. She works hard every practice and is always willing to help anyone out, on or off the team! Quiet at most times, April truly “leads by example” and will show that leadership once again this season. She has competed on national television (ESPN 2) and Fox Sports Net and has always had an incredible performance. April was voted “Best Teammate” for the 2007-08 season. Everyone will soon find out why once you have the privilege of cheering with her this year! | |

Cheer Coach Garrin Gosnell cheer@hpu.edu 808-566-2477
Aloha Guys & Girls! Camp is right around the corner. College cheerleading camp is our debut for Hawai`i Pacific University cheerleading for the 2008-2009 season. We will meet in Las Vegas in July for Work Week (four long days of practice) followed by NCA UNLV College Camp. We need to have a stellar performance during camp because this sets the tone for our new season. As well, our work ethic and attitude affect the opinion our peers have of HPU’s programs. YOU are HPU now, and I expect everyone to maintain a championship image at all times! I encourage everyone to stay active and in shape and come to Las Vegas ready to work hard! Work week is four long days of practice where we will be training all of the skills needed to stay one step ahead of our competition, but in a very short time frame. Be sure to keep stretching, conditioning, tumbling, and maintaining your endurance because camp can be strenuous and taxing on your bodies! Have a great summer, stay safe and I look forward to meeting you all in Las Vegas! Mahalo!
