About Jönköping International Business School: 
Jönköping, situated at the southern end of Lake Vättern (approximately 300 km. South of Stockholm), is a city of 115,000 inhabitants with a history dating back to the medieval period. The University of Jönköping comprises four independent schools, including Jönköping International Business School. JIBS, founded in 1994, offers bachelor and master degrees in the fields of business administration, commercial law, political science, business informatics and economics. The student body includes many international students among its 1,700 students, and most Swedish JIBS students spend at least one semester studying abroad. HPU initiated an undergraduate student exchange program with JIBS in 1997 and an exchange program for MBA students began in 2003.

Dates to Remember:

The fall term is divided into two parts, A1 (late Aug. to late Oct.) and A2 late (Oct. 27 to early Jan.). The spring term is also divided into two parts, S1 (mid-Jan. to early April) and S2 (early April to early June). During each quarter an exchange student takes two undergraduate level courses (designated in the JIBS catalog as "A" introductory, "B" intermediate and "C" advanced) for a total of 4 courses. * Fall Semester is not available due to conflicts with our academic calendar. You may only choose between attending Spring Semester or Full Year at this university.

* Please remember HPU Study Abroad Application Deadline is Mid-March for Fall and Mid-October for Spring. 

Admission Requirements:

  • Must have attended HPU for one semester
  • Must intend to graduate from HPU
  • Must have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be fluent in English

Application Procedure:

  • Complete the Student Exchange Program data sheet.
  • Schedule and attend a formal interview with Melissa Matsubara
  • Be prepared to discuss your motives for studying abroad and your degree plan.
  • Select an exchange partner university that has courses which can be used for your intended HPU degree.
  • Fill out the exchange university’s admissions application
  • Obtain recommendation letters to be turned in with your application. (This depends on the individual university’s application requirements)
  • Passport photos (Amount and size depend upon each university)
  • Sign a Course Request Approval (CRA) to verify your foreign coursework and HPU equivalents.
Health Insurance:  Health Insurance is mandatory for all study abroad students. You may check with your current provider to see if they cover a study abroad, or you may choose an additional provider to cover you while overseas. Please consult our Health Insurance page found in our Resources section for more information.

Housing Accommodations:  JIBS arranges housing for international exchange students prior to arrival at various housing complexes near the JIBS campus. Single rooms are furnished and a kitchen and bath are shared by two or three other students living in the apartment suite. Cost, depending upon type of room selected, ranges from 2,000 SEK to 2,500 SEK per month. Housing reservation is made at the time you apply to JIBS.

Visa Information:  student exchange participants apply for a visa through the Consulate of Sweden in New York.

Note: Since it takes time to get a Swedish visa, please apply as early as possible to the university.
