About Universidad de San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador:
La Universidad de San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) is located in Cumbaya, about 30 minutes from Quito, Ecuador. USFQ is the only fully private university that has been recognized as category A in Ecuador, placing it among the most highly ranked universities in the country. The school has a small student body, just around 4000 students (undergrad and grad combined), but offers a number of courses in Liberal Arts, Environmental Science, Business, Administration, and International Relations to name a few. USFQ also offers special semester-long programs like their environmental-oriented one at the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences. Summer programs are also available.

* Please remember HPU Study Abroad Application Deadline is Mid-March for Fall and Mid-October for Spring. 

Admission Requirements:

  • Must have attended HPU for one semester
  • Must intend to graduate from HPU
  • Must have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be fluent in English; some Spanish recommended

Application Procedure:

  • Complete the Student Exchange Program data sheet.
  • Schedule and attend a formal interview with Melissa Matsubara
  • Be prepared to discuss your motives for studying abroad and your degree plan.
  • Select an exchange partner university that has courses which can be used for your intended HPU degree.
  • Fill out the exchange university’s admissions application.
  • Obtain recommendation letters to be turned in with your application. (This depends on the individual university’s application requirements)
  • Passport photos (Amount and size depend upon each university)
  • Sign a Credit Request Approval (CRA) to verify your foreign coursework and HPU equivalents.

Health Insurance: Health Insurance is mandatory for all study abroad students.  HPU recommends health insurance from Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) for students study abroad. Housing Accommodations: Various kinds of accommodation are available in Innsbruck ranging from rooms in shared houses, in single apartments, rooms in student dorms, and USFQ offers the opportunity for exchange students to reside in homestays. Prices vary according to equipment and facilities.

Currency: The currency is Ecuador is the United States dollar. No exchange of money will be required.

Visa Information:
Exchange students must take at least 16 credits to justify the 12-VIII Cultural Exchange visa (fall and spring semesters only).  The maximum number of credits is usually 27, but students may request extensions up to 28 credits. Please note that USFQ’s special programs have separate requirements.
