About Deakin University:
Deakin University (DU) has four campuses: Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waterfront, Geelong Waurn Ponds, and Warrnambool.
The Main Campus at Melbourne Burwood is located in the state capital of Victoria, Australia’s smallest mainland state. It boasts open and inviting spaces for socialising and studying, innovative architecture, spacious new buildings and wireless hotspots. The Melbourne Burwood Campus offers three unique living experiences across two locations with 200 rooms available in the Burwood Student Village and 400 rooms available in the new residences. Both are within walking distance of all campus facilities- including a health clinic, food outlets, uni bar, YMCA gym and bank- residents are also close to barbeques, walking paths, a running track, and parklands.
Geelong Waterfront Campus is located on Corio Bay, in the central business district of Geelong. Originally built as woolstores in 1893, the buildings have been extensively renovated to create a modern and impressive campus centre. Exchange students can also attend classes at the Geelong Campus of DU (one hour train ride from Melbourne). The second largest city in Victoria, Geelong (aboriginal word for "bay") has a population close to 200,000 and is noted for Bells Beach and Torquay, famous surfing sites. The Geelong campus is set on a 300 hectare site and is the second largest campus of the University, with around 4,000 students. Located approximately 7 miles from the city center, a daily bus service operates from the University to the city and surrounding areas.
Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is located on the western edge of Geelong. The campus features expansive landscaped grounds and extensive sporting facilities. The campus is home to the Geelong Technology Precinct, which provides research and development capabilities and opportunities for university-industry partnerships and new enterprises in the regionThe Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus offers a range of on-campus accomodation options for 790 residents in a picturesque landscape close to all University facilities, including library, shops, and sporting facilities.
Warrnambool Campus is set on the banks of the picturesque Hopkins River, close to local surf beaches and popular tourist attractions. The Warrnambool Campus is a friendly, close-knit community, with a personal and informal relationship between students and staff. The Warrnambool campus offers studio and shared unit on campus accommodation set amidst spacious grounds within close proximity to campus facilities, a nine hole golf course, tennis, basketball/netball, football oval and gymnasium. Warrnambool's internationally acclaimed May Racing Carnival is just around the corner!

Study Abroad Dates
July 9 – October 15
March 5 – June 15
* Please remember HPU Study Abroad Application Deadline is Mid-March for Fall and Mid-October for Spring.
- Must have attended HPU for one semester
- Must intend to graduate from HPU
- Must have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be fluent in English
- Complete the Student Exchange Program data sheet.
- Schedule and attend a formal interview with Melissa Matsubara
- Be prepared to discuss your motives for studying abroad and your degree plan.
- Select an exchange partner university that has courses which can be used for your intended HPU degree.
- Fill out the exchange university’s admissions application: Deakin University Application
- Obtain recommendation letters to be turned in with your application. (This depends on the individual university’s application requirements)
- Passport photos (Amount and size depend upon each university)
- Sign a Credit Registration Approval (CRA) form to verify your foreign coursework and HPU equivalents.
Health Insurance: Health Insurance is mandatory for all study abroad students. HPU recommends health insurance that provide Overseas Health Coverage (OSHC), some of the insurers approved by the Australian Department of Health are Australian Health Management, BUPA Australia, Medibank Private, Allianz Global Assistance, and nib OSHC. Housing Accommodations: Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, and Warrnambool Campus offers on-campus housing for students upon availability. Each resident is housed in single room accommodation, with amenities, such as telephone and computer access. Bedrooms are furnished, heated and carpeted. There are shared bathrooms, dining rooms, laundry and recreational areas. Off-campus housing is also available. There is more information on housing on the DU website.
