In the fall of 2003, HPU introduced our mascot Sharky the Sea Warrior. Sharky has increased school spirit and can be seen interacting with fans at HPU’s women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball games. In addition, he appears at many other campus events, at graduation ceremonies, and out in the community. Each year, Sharky joins the Cheer and Dance teams and will audition to compete at the National Cheer Association College Championships in the Mascot Division in Daytona Beach, Florida. In April 2005, Sharky was the Mascot National Champion at the NCA National Competition.
Tryouts, both live and by videotape, for the Mascot position are held every spring, and tuition scholarships are available for incoming undergraduate HPU students. If you would like to submit a videotape tryout, please email cheer@hpu.edu for more information. The Mascot attends a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camp and competition.
For further information regarding the mascot program and tryout information, please email cheer@hpu.edu. Please remember that before you can tryout you must be accepted into the University.
