Student Employment Opportunities

We at the Center for Academic Success are always looking for qualified students to work as tutors and sign-in assistants (SIAs). You must be a current, full-time HPU student to work in the Center for Academic Success, and we generally look for students available between 14-17 hours per week.

We are open year-round and, depending on availability and course offerings, we typically hire for the following tutor positions:

Language Tutors:

Qualifications:

  • Native-like language skills (Native speaker preferred).
  • Tutoring/Teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • A friendly, patient attitude.

English Tutors

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Communication Skills A (WRI 1100, WRI 1150, or JOUR 1100).
  • Completion of Research and Epistemology A (WRI 1200 or COM 1400).
  • Strong skills in spoken and written English.
  • Strong GPA

MABS (Math/Accounting/Business/Science) Tutors

Qualifications:

  • Mastery of ten (10) or more courses in mathematics, computer science, finance, accounting, economics, marketing, biology, chemistry, physics, etc...
  • Good skills in spoken English.

Chemistry Tutors

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed General Chemistry 2050, 2051, 2052, 2053.
  • Successfully completed at least two additional upper-level science courses.
  • Good skills in spoken English.

Biology Tutors

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed BIO 2050-2053.
  • Successfully completed at least two upper-level science courses.
  • Good skills in spoken English.

Math Tutors:

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed Calculus 1 & 2 (Math 2214 and 2215).
  • Successfully completed at least two upper level math courses.
  • Good skills in spoken English.

Economics Tutors:

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of ECON 2010 and 2015.
  • Successful completion of at least two upper-level Business and/or Economics courses.
  • Good skills in spoken English.
