Marco "Tony" Perez - Student Body President
To explain who I am, what my qualifications are, and why I desire to be Student Body President is hard to do in 300 words so I will be brief. I am a HPU student, an HPU colligate athlete, a community member, and an advocate for my fellow students. Of note for my qualifications I have served in several different organizations in my last three years in college most recently being the Cross-County Liaison for Student Sports Committee.
As for why I am pursuing the position of Student Body President I have two distinct reasons. The first of which is to bring a new perspective to this “politically” skewed position. I desire to bring the perspective of the average student to bear in a position that is often out of touch with the general student body. I want to change this as I feel the SPB should be in constant contact with his fellow students and work with them and not above them. Second I desire to see a college built around its student body, and not the other way around. I firmly believe that a college is only as strong as its student community and HPU has the potential to grow here with the right guidance in place. I would like to devote myself to cultivating a true college community that can instill the sense of a true “four-year” in our unique setting.
We have all read over the last several months about all the new direction our University is undertaking. It is one of great venture, change, and ultimately growth. I think it is in this moment that we need to strive forward with a new perspective, one that centers on the student body and bringing together the vibrant community culture that we lack. So it is with these intentions that I set out to represent you as the “Voice” of our student body as your Student Body President.
Sincerely,
Marco “Tony” Perez

Miina Huotari - Student Body President
Miina Huotari is a sophomore International Studies student from Finland, who speaks four languages and has visited several corners of the world. She thinks HPU as a multicultural learning environment is a perfect match with her own experiences. As an international student, Miina feels she can represent all students as she has views and experience from the outside. Miina's current responsibilities and associations in HPU include SGA Humanities and Social Sciences Senator, United Nations Club President, and Students’ Rights Standing Committee Chair. She is also working as a Peer Academic Coach in the new University program. She would like to be the next Student Body President simply because she wants to further enhance the student life experience of all students at HPU. Miina believes that college is a time not just to learn, but to start building oneself as an individual as well. Huotari's platform focuses on three key terms: Ownership, Community and Transparency. She believes that student involvement in important decision making is crucial to allow respect between the student body and the administrations. Miina believes in collaboration with all students to create an University community that includes everyone equally. She believes her leadership experience, determination and passion combined with good team work can create better student success and experience for everyone. In the future Miina wishes to work for the United Nations or other institution in diplomacy and humanitarian work sectors. |
