Peter Pol Borcena

Peter Pol Borcena - Chair - Campus Activities Board

Aloha Sea Warriors, my name is Peter and I’m currently a junior majoring in Biology: Human and Health Science. I am running for the position of Chairperson on the Campus Activities Board. The reason why I am running for Chairperson is because I have been involved in CAB since the beginning of the year starting off as a member to now being the Information Director (in charge of CABs social networks, making flyers, and surveys). Other than fulfilling my duties as Information Director, I’m also involve in the CAB re-structuring committee, seeing that CAB transitions smoothly to it’s own entity and drafting its new constitution. I’m currently working as a Peer Academic Coach, involved in the Pre-Health club, and United Nations club, and also an Orientation Leader for the past two years.

This school year CAB was able to put out many events, from the Haunted House, Mystery Bus Tour, and Masquerade dance. With the success of every event CAB was able to present to the student body- behind the scenes we faced many setbacks. With that, there are definitely improvements that I have learned throughout the year that CAB can apply next school year. Some changes that I hope to introduce if voted for Chairperson are: increase student involvement in CAB, more accountability given to officers (to implement the best events possible), and have more “mini” events (such as movie nights, prize giveaways).

With the implementation of the Student Activities Fee next school year, CAB will be better equipped to bring the student body with many more events. Carrying that responsibility, CAB will need a Chairperson who has experienced the “behind the scenes” work that is required to make these events successful, have the ability to bring people together, and manage a team effectively. Because of those descriptions, I believe that I am the best person for the job.  <back to top>
Julie Castillo

Julie Castillo - Co-Chair - Campus Activities Board

Hello, my name is Julie Castillo and I am a sophomore studying Marine Biology. I’m from a small town in southern California. I have previously been involved student government in high school as the Vice President for two years. I am currently involved in Campus Activities Board this semester. During my time in CAB, I have helped with many events we have planned and also have gone to the National Association for Campus Activities in Portland, Oregon as a student representative for HPU’s CAB. At this convention I learned a lot about how a school’s CAB functions and how to make the events for college awesome and exciting. I am running for CAB Co-Chair to improve the events and school spirit for HPU students. Also to use the knowledge I obtained from the convention and make CAB a bigger part of HPU. Thank you so much for your support! Mahalo. <back to top>
Mylynne Simon

Mylynne Simon - Co-Chair - Campus Activities Board

My name is Mylynne Simon, and I am running for Campus Activities Board Co-Chair. I am interested in being a leader in CAB because even though this is only my second semester in college, CAB has helped my college experience that much better. It was one of the first clubs I signed up for this organization during the fall Club Carnival, and it was the only one I stuck with. CAB has allowed me to grow even more as a leader and has expanded my network of friends and associates greatly.

In high school, I was very dedicated to Key Club, a community service organization. I was involved with the club for all four years, with my last two years serving as a Vice President.  I was in charge of planning service projects, planning fundraisers, and making sure that the Key Club members were accounted for during service projects. Currently, I am serving as CAB’s Co-Chair. My job is to fill out the Activity Request Forms, assist the Chair with decision making, and anything else the other CAB directors need help with.

With CAB, I hope to plan smaller scale events, like events centered around certain holidays. Doing fundraisers, such as canned food drives and making gifts for children in the hospital, is also on my to do list if I am elected. Of course, I will do my part to make the big events happen, such as a carnival that is open to HPU students and the public.

Because I am already in CAB, I am capable of taking care of forms, such as the Activity Request Form, and contacting vendors for events. Since I am a freshman, I have a lot of time that I can dedicate to making CAB bigger and better.  <back to top>
Viviana Mendez Viviana Mendez - Administration Director - Campus Activities Board

Born in Mexico City D.F., Mexico Viviana Mendez came to the United States in 1995, and became citizen after her father, a talented Ophthalmologist became awarded citizenship by the U.S. government. Viviana attended Francis W. Parker Lower, Middle and Upper School until she was 18. Besides being in various clubs, such as Girl’s League, Spanish Club, and French Honors Club, Viviana also played sports year round and was varsity captain in Lacrosse and Cheer.

Outside of school, Viviana was President of her youth group, she worked with a group of twenty to plan and execute functions throughout the year, including missionaries, serving at church, church choir, and community service. In addition, Viviana was interning at the Vision Institute in Tijuana, Mexico, where Viviana found her goal in life. Having various doctors in her family, Viviana knew that her goal in life was also to improve the lives of those in need.

Today, Viviana lives in Kaneohe attending Hawai’i Pacific University, with the aspiration to better the lives of those around her with awareness, education, and well-being. While being treasurer in high school for Girls’ League Club, today she is currently Treasurer of Health Promotion and Wellness Association (HPWA). By obtaining a leadership position on the Campus Activities Board, Viviana will feel more connected to HPU. Without doubt, she wants to dedicate her time to other students and the environment around her. Being in health science and HPWA, she demonstrates the need to better our student community. Around the HPU campus, there is a lack of school spirit. If Viviana was elected for a position on CAB, she will work hard to change this. By using superb motivation, excellent financial, and exceptional organization skills, Viviana will work diligently to better our students’ community. <back to top>
