Measles Immunizations

The state of Hawai'i requires all students to be immunized for measles (rubeola). Two doses of live vaccine or two doses of MMR separated by at least one month are required. First dose must have been given after January 1, 1968.

Measles immunization may be waived if:  

  • Student is born before 1957 (provide proof of birth date)
  • Physician had confirmed diagnosis in the past or serologic evidence of immunity is presented (provide written statement from your physician; statement must be signed and written on official stationery).

 NOTE:First-time international students may have their measles (MMR) immunizations taken in their home country. 

TB Clearance

International students and U.S. citizens living overseas must complete the Tuberculin Skin Test immediately upon entry into the U.S. TB certification issued outside of the U.S. cannot be accepted by the University.

A TB clearance may be obtained from any of the following:  

  • A U.S. physician; refer to your health insurance plan.
  • KPHC Downtown (Family medical & Dental Center): Located on 89 South King Street, Honolulu (near the HPU downtown campus),4th floor. Open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm (last appointment at 3:45pm). Call (808) 792-5570. Fee as of July, 2011: $5 for PPD TB test. PPD TB placement can only be done on Monday, Tues, Wed, and Friday. PPD TB READINGS can be done Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. [Regarding other fees: $50 for MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella -Laboratory test);$57 per vaccine for MMR Immunization; and $45 per vaccine for Hepatitis B Immunization. Please note: (a) Eligibility workers will assist eligible students with applications for QUEST benefits; (b) KPHC will bill insurance companies using appropriate negotiated rates; (c) If KPHC Downtown receives free vaccines from the State - designated to students - KPHC will not charge students for the vaccines; (d) Services will be provided to eligible students without regard to their ability to pay.]

  • Lanakila Health Clinic: Department of Health TB Testing Clinic, 1700 Lanakila Avenue. Testing is every weekday except Thursday, 7:45am - 3:00pm (closed 12pm-1pm). For chest x-ray, Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 3:00pm, and on Thursdays, 7:45am-2pm. Due to the furlough schedule, please call the clinic to confirm hours of operation. Call (808) 832-5731. Fee: No Charge.

  •  Diamond Head Health Center, 3627 Kilauea Avenue, Room 302, Honolulu, HI 96816. Tuesdays, 2pm - 4pm. Call (808) 733-9220. This location is convenient for those living in east Honolulu. Fee: No Charge.
  • Windward Health Center, 45-691 Keaahala Road, Kaneohe, HI 96744. Tuesdays, 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Call (808) 233-5450. This location is convenient for those living on the Windard side of Oahu. Fee: No Charge.
