Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who is eligible for the discounted MCP tuition rate?
A: All valid military ID card holders [examples: Active duty, Family Members, Retired, Reservists, National Guard, and DoD Civilians] are eligible to take MCP in-class and online courses for the discounted tuition rate.
Q: What happens if military ID card holding students are charged the regular university tuition rate?
A: Once the student verifies that they are a military ID card holder, their student account will be updated and they will not be charged the regular university tuition rate.
Q: I am eligible to attend courses in MCP because I am a veteran using Post 9/11 GI Bill but I do not have military ID card, how will this affect me?
A: Post 9/11 GI Bill will still cover 100% of your tuition. Even if the maximum amount is exceeded, HPU’s participation in the Yellow Ribbon program will likely cover the remainder.
Q: What if I am an MCP eligible student already attending MCP and I do not have a valid military ID card and my tuition is not 100% covered by Post 9/11 GI Bill or another benefit or scholarship?
A: Current MCP eligible students already attending MCP without a 100% tuition benefit from Post 9/11 GI Bill or another benefit or scholarship will be grandfathered into the military tuition rate for one calendar year (through December 2014). This will give students time to finish their degree or secure other funding methods.
Q:Why is HPU-MCP making this change?
A: HPU-MCP has been a leader in offering higher education to the military since 1974. Restricting the MCP tuition rate only to military ID card holders helps HPU continue to be among the top schools in the nation in offering quality and affordable education to the military community. In addition, every possible step is being taken to minimize the impact on MCP eligible students without military ID cards, such as out of service veterans.
Q: Who can I speak to for questions about this change?
A: Please contact Military Campus Programs at email@example.com or 808-544-1179.
