Library Services for the Oceanic Institute

The University Libraries support the Oceanic Institute in part with the following resources and services:

On this page: Online Resources
The Library Catalog
Periodicals List
About SFX
Interlibrary Loan
Research Guides
Contact Information

Online Resources:

The Libraries have numerous science-based databases, including:

Go to HPU Campus Pipeline > Libraries' tab > Databases > then select Natural Sciences for a complete listing of electronic resources that support Oceanic Institute's research.

The Library Catalog

OI faculty and staff have complete borrowing privileges from the University Libraries.

  • Use the Library Catalog to search for and locate print and electronic books.
  • Use the Online Request Form to have print titles delivered to the OI.
  • Access the Library Catalog via HPU Campus Pipeline > Libraries' tab > Library Catalog to authenticate your machine; this will enable you to access and use thousands of science-based eBooks.

Contact Atherton Library (information is to the right of this page) to setup a Library Catalog account; this will enable you to renew your checkouts online, manage your contact information, and other handy things.

Periodicals List

Have a journal title and need to know if the Libraries have it? Check the Periodicals List.  And, as above, if you access it via Campus Pipeline, your machine will be authenticated with the journal, and you should be able to access its content, from anywhere. Go to HPU Campus Pipeline > Libraries' tab > Periodicals List.

About SFX

SFX is the Libraries' link resolver.  When you see the SFX icon in a database, select it; if the full-text is available, SFX should route you to it.

Interlibrary Loan

If you need a journal article or book and the Libraries don't have it, submit an Interlibrary Loan and the Libraries will try to borrow it for you. Usually there is a fee, which you'll be asked to pay; sometimes, however, there isn't! And the service can be fast, sometimes taking just a day or two. For more information contact our Interlibrary Loan librarian, Justin Rajkowski, at 544-0210.

Research Guides

Lydia Lee, the Natural Sciences librarian, has created several Research Guides that will benefit your research. Lydia has created rich, dynamic Research Guides for these subjects:

As above, Go to Campus Pipeline > Libraries' tab > Research Guides, then select the subject relevant to your research.
