Honolulu, Hawaii — Hawai‘i Pacific University welcomes acclaimed blues musician Marcia Ball, for a special conversation on Monday, February 1. "Women in Music" begins at 5:30 p.m., at Aloha Tower Marketplace Multipurpose Room 2. The talk is free and open to the public.

Known as "the Queen of Blues Piano," Ball will be joined by Hawaii musician Erin Smith to discuss challenges that women face in the music industry. Honolulu Star-Advertiser Arts & Entertainment Editor Elizabeth Kieszkowski will host the evening.

"Marcia was kind enough to do a concert benefit for our Department of Communication Student Success Fund a few years ago," said John Hart, chair of the HPU Department of Communication. "We are very pleased she is making the time to talk about this timely topic before her appearance at the Hawaii Theatre the following evening."

Hart encourages local musicians, especially women, to be part of the conversation with the veteran blues pianist.

The Texas-born, Louisiana-raised Ball is an inductee of both the Gulf Coast Hall Of Fame and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. She’s received several Living Blues Awards and Blues Music Awards, and multiple Grammy Award nominations.

"Women in Music" is sponsored by the HPU Department of Communication and the HPU Student Activity Fee.
