Lecture Series Brings Noted Sustainability Experts to HPU

Honolulu, Hawaii — Prominent experts in conservation and public policy will kick off a new series of lectures presented at Hawai‘i Pacific University in February. 

HPU's Presidential Lecture Series on Global Leadership and Sustainability begins Tuesday, Feb. 9, with Inger Andersen, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. She will present “Investing in Nature for Resilient Societies and a Sustainable Future.” 

The series continues on Thursday, Feb. 18, as HPU welcomes Neal F. Lane, Ph.D., senior fellow for Science and Technology at Rice University’s James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. He will present “Can Science Save Us? Advice for the Next President of the United States.” Lane was assistant to the president for science and technology and director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, under President Bill Clinton. He also served as director of the National Science Foundation.

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Presidential Lecture Series on Global Leadership and Sustainability is made possible by a generous gift from Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI). The series brings to Hawaii nationally and internationally recognized speakers to stimulate conversation and promote leadership on critical topics related to environmental sustainability.
