Sam Moku named HPU vice president of University Relations

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University President Geoffrey Bannister has named Sam Moku as Vice President of University Relations. Moku was previously HPU’s Director of Public and Governmental Relations and has been a vital member of the university’s leadership team since joining HPU in March of this year.
The announcement was made on Thursday night by Dr. Michael Chun, Chairman of the HPU Board of Trustees, at the university’s annual President’s Dinner.
“Our ongoing need to increase private giving, grow community and alumni relations, and prepare for the 50th anniversary in 2015 require attention and leadership, and I can think of no person with more dedication, enthusiasm and relevant experiences than Sam,” said Bannister. “Sam is a fountain of energetic optimism and his long-term involvement with broad and diverse constituencies enables him to be uniquely effective in developing relationships on behalf of the university.”
Reporting to the president, the Vice President of University Relations is responsible for managing a comprehensive, professional university relations operation, including community and government relations, fundraising programs and services, and a robust alumni relations program. Moku will serve as a key advisor and thought partner to the president, trustees and colleagues and act as a representative internally and externally on the university’s behalf.
Moku has held a number of leadership positions prior to coming to HPU including as Director of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Community Services and executive director with the State Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
