More than 950 students graduate from HPU

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University conferred associate, baccalaureate and master degrees to more than 950 graduates in the Spring 2012 class at its 78th commencement ceremony May 17 at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.
Michael J. Chun, Ph.D., presented the commencement address. Chun is the chairman of the HPU Board of Trustees. He is retiring from Kamehameha Schools (Kapalama) as president and headmaster after a distinguished 24-year term.
HPU trustee Violet S. Loo also took the stage to award Bradford Harrison the Paul C.T. Loo Distinguished Alumni Award for outstanding service to the university and community. Harrison is a vice president at First Hawaiian Bank and an instructor at HPU.
Richard Ward, Ed.D., was named the recipient of the Trustees’ Award for Teaching Excellence.
Three valedictory speakers, chosen for exemplary academic performance and community service, also addressed the graduating class. Representing the undergraduate degree programs was Lauren Ferrier Pollock, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Matthew Wilson, Master of Arts in Communication, represented the graduate degree programs; and Toni-Anne Marie Mannino, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, spoke on behalf of HPU Military Campus Programs.
