Todd Simmons Appointed as Vice President of Communications and Marketing

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University has announced the appointment of Todd Simmons as vice president of University Marketing and Communications. Simmons will be responsible for developing a unified communications division and strategy at HPU in this newly-created executive position.
“We are very happy to have Todd join our team at HPU as we embark on our new strategic initiatives to expand our nationwide media presence,” said HPU President Geoffrey Bannister, Ph.D.
Simmons is currently associate vice president of University Relations and Marketing at Oregon State University in Corvallis. There, he helps lead a 28-member team responsible for marketing, print and web communications and university events. He also oversees the News and Research Communication Services office, which is responsible for the university’s research magazine, media relations and internal communications. He also works closely with the Office of the President.
He was previously director of communications in the Department of Public and Government Affairs at the University of Oregon, director of marketing and media relations at Florida International University, and director of media relations at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He began his career as a reporter and editorial writer for newspapers in Florida.

Under the guidance of President Bannister, the faculty, students, staff and senior leadership creating the new strategic plan are charting a tremendously exciting new course for HPU,” Simmons said. “I look forward to being part of the team that supports that strategy with a comprehensive communications program that adds value and brings focus to the HPU brand by engaging its many constituents in ongoing dialogue.”
Simmons is a graduate of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education Institute for Educational Management. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Florida. He has studied film and television production, integrated marketing communications and crisis communications throughout his 20-year career.
Simmons has won numerous awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Most recently, he shared in a Grand Gold Medal for the successful “Powered by Orange” marketing campaign for Oregon State.
