HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University President Dr. Geoffrey Bannister signed agreements with Thai Nguyen University of Vietnam Dec. 5.
Bannister and Dr. Dang Kim Vui, president of Thai Nguyen University, signed a memorandum of understanding and agreements between the universities’ respective Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Environmental Science programs.
Vietnamese universities, such as Thai Nguyen, have made English language learning a high priority as they expand their international connections and educational qualifications, said Dr. Jon Davidann, HPU professor of History and Director of International Exchange and Study Abroad Programs.
“HPU hopes to send its BA and MA TESOL students to Thai Nguyen to do their internships there. In return, Thai Nguyen would like to send its faculty and students to HPU to study in our prestigious TESOL program,” Davidann said.
The Environmental Science programs at HPU and Thai Nguyen also eventually plan to discuss a dual degree agreement so students from one university can study at the other’s institution, Davidann said.
