HPU celebrates 77th commencement ceremony

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Pacific University conferred associate, baccalaureate and master degrees to more than 650 graduates in the Fall 2011 class at its 77th commencement ceremony, Dec. 20 at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.
It was the first ceremony presided over by HPU President Dr. Geoffrey Bannister, who joined the university in July. Ramsay Taum presented the commencement address. Taum is the managing director of Blue Continent Holdings, LLC, and a recognized Native Hawaiian cultural expert.
Three valedictory speakers were chosen for exemplary academic performance and community service, and addressed the graduating class. Representing the undergraduate degree programs was Harald Rittersbacher, Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in International Studies. Courtney T.K. Matsuki, Master of Arts in Communication with a certificate in Mediation and Conflict, represented the graduate degree programs. Devin Kibler, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, spoke on behalf of HPU Military Campus Programs.
