HPU celebrates the inauguration of Dr. Geoffrey Bannister as president

KANEOHE — Hawai‘i Pacific University celebrated the inauguration of Geoffrey Bannister, Ph.D., as Hawai‘i Pacific University’s fourth president Oct. 13.
The event, the first of its kind at HPU, took place at the Hawai‘i Loa Campus and included a processional, hula performance, traditional New Zealand haka chants to honor President Bannister, and music from the HPU Symphonic Band.
Linda Johnsrud, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost of the University of Hawai‘i, served as the inaugural speaker.
Bannister joined HPU in July 2011. He has extensive experience in higher education, having served as the 17th president of Butler University, Indianapolis, for 12 years. He previously was dean of Liberal Arts, and dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Boston University. Bannister was born in England and reared in New Zealand, where he was a champion cyclist before embarking on his illustrious academic career.
