A Student Group for Everyone
HPU has more than 50 active student clubs where you can meet new people and make friends. Where else can you find someone who shares your unique interests and passions whether it’s learning about other cultures, playing rugby, or doing community service? The Center for Student Life and First-Year Programs supports student clubs which fall into three categories: academic and professional, cultural and religious, and special interest. A complete and up to date list of them is available here.
The HPU Student Government Association (SGA),coordinates student activities for various occasions and provides a forum for students to share concerns. All students enrolled in at least one credit are eligible and encouraged to voice concerns at weekly meetings during the fall and spring semesters. For more information, check their website.
HPU has a number of other outstanding co-curricular activities for students. Students can write for the Kalamalama, HPU’s newspaper which has 13 first place awards from the American Scholastic Press Association. The Arts are alive and well at HPU and students can participate in theatre and music performance programs. HPU Theatre has received numerous awards for acting, directing, ensemble performance, playwriting, and overall play production. HPU Theatre most recently won 15 awards at the 2009 Pookela Award Ceremony sponsored by the Hawaii State Theatre Council. HPU’s music performance ensembles are the Sea Warrior Band, Orchestra, and International Chorale and Vocal Ensemble. These music ensembles enable students to refine their musical talents, receive generous scholarships, and visit other countries on international tours.
Other exciting affiliated opportunities include Council of Countries, Debate Society and Honors Society. More information on these as well as clubs and organizations can be found here.
