Accomplished Faculty Both Inside and Outside the Classroom

Meet Dr. Curt Powley
Professor of Computer Science

Dr. Curt Powley holds a Master’s of Science from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the UCLA.  With over 20 years of professional experience in the field of theoretical computer science, Dr. Powley has extended his love for computer science through over seven years of teaching at Hawaii Pacific University.

Dr. Powley encourages a strong work ethic in his classroom and teaches the ideology that through challenge comes with great reward.  His extensive professional career allows him to incorporate many real-world scenarios into his teaching to provide students with a classroom experience beyond the textbook.  In addition to in-class assignments, Dr. Powley takes his classes on field trips to Hawaii’s top high-tech companies to further expose students to the real world awaiting them after college.

Dr. Powley is also an accomplished West Coast Swing dancer, and his feet have taken him from across the country with numerous forms of dance.  Recently he was awarded a medal at a national dance competition held on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Dr. Powley finds that life as a dancer helps to provide a nice balance between his hobbies and his other academic and professional pursuits.
