Meet Dr. Carlos Juarez
Dr. Carlos Juarez, Chair of HPU’s Department of Social Sciences and Professor of Political Science, has lectured throughout Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Dr. Juarez is a specialist in international relations and comparative political economy of Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. He is the president of the Hawai‘i chapter of the Fulbright Association, which is the flagship program sponsored by the U.S. government to support and promote international educational and cultural exchange. Dr. Juarez has been a Fulbright Scholar to Mexico and twice to the Czech Republic. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, and serves on the Consular Corps of Hawaii as Honorary Consul of Peru. He served on the staff of former U.S. Senator Alan Cranston (D-Calif.), and was a consultant to the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C.; the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; and the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in Stockholm, Sweden.
