Tips to Stand Out at the Career Fair:

  • Review the list of companies prior to coming to the fair and select 5-8 companies that you will target.
  • Research the companies in attendance.  Find out more about the organization so that you can tailor your resume and ask very focused and specific questions.
  • Bring an ample supply of tailored resumes to distribute to employers.  While many employers may prefer that you submit your resume online, it is always best to come prepared.
  • Practice your elevator speech - a 30-second "commercial" where you introduce yourself, briefly mention your skills, qualifications, and what kind of opportunities you are interested in.  You have to be able to tell employers what you can offer because they don't know anything about you!
  • Dress appropriately - first impressions are important!  Business casual attire is recommended for HPU Career Fairs

Helpful tips and information on resume writing, elevator speeches, the job search process, and more can be found on the Student Resources page.

Attend our "Backpack to Briefcase" workshops during the week of February 27th or one of our bi-monthly Resume Workshops.  Visit the Career Events Calendar for dates and times.
