HPU student team wins computing competition for fourth time, shows well nationally. Under the leadership of Curt Powley, Ph.D., chair of the HPU Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Hawai‘i Pacific University took first place Saturday at the Hawai‘i site of this year’s ACM International CollegiateProgramming Contest (ICPC) for the second year in a row and fourth time since 2003. This is an exciting time for the fields of mathematics and computer science. Rapid technological change based on advances in math and computer science have produced a healthy math and computer job market with some of the highest salaries of any discipline.
Our department offers BS degrees in computer science, applied mathematics, mathematics education, pure mathematics, and a dual degree in applied math and engineering with a partner university. Undergraduate and masters degrees in information systems are offered in the Department of Financial Economics and Information Systems. We also offer minors in computer science and mathematics. Our excellent faculty, small class sizes, and state-of-the art computer facilities give students an outstanding education to prepare them for industry or academia.
