Welcome to the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies.
There are many advantages to majoring in one of the programs in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies, at Hawaii Pacific University has many advantages. The faculty members are superior professors and instructors, have excellent credentials, and maintain a high caliber of professional activity. In addition, the coursework will prepare students to go in a number of directions, and to develop professional networks which will help them as they advance in their respective careers.
The curriculum is challenging and comprehensive. Classes are small, allowing for individualized attention and ready-access to professors. All majors receive personalized, one-on-one advising from a regular full-time faculty member. Faculty advisors assist students with meeting degree requirements and with clarifying educational and career objectives. Additionally, students can join Honor Societies relevant to their field, which are sponsored by the Department. Specialized courses provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience through internships or research projects.
Students who complete our programs have gone on to work in federal investigative agencies, circuit/criminal courts, correctional facilities, non-profit and youth service agencies, and state and federal probation offices. Internships and practicum placements with many of these agencies are also available.
