Helping Fetzer Vineyards Achieve Zero Waste
Josh Prigge is the Sustainability Manager for Fetzer Vineyards in Hopland CA and an HPU Alumni. Upon Fetzer receiving this award he stated, “Since our founding in 1968, Fetzer Vineyards has been a pioneer in sustainable business practices... We are honored to be the first wine company to achieve Zero Waste certification. This achievement reinforces that companies can work to create a closed loop system that is both profitable and sustainable.” This platinum level Zero Waste certification from the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council (USZWBC) recognizes the company for successfully diverting 97.7 percent of its waste from landfill, incineration and the environment.
Gail Suzuki-Jones and Jon Chin (a GLSD alum!, 2008) at the Energy Efficiency branch at DBEDT have been highly supportive of the MAGLSD internship program for the past 3 years. More recently, as part of the R.I.S.E. grant, they have helped us to develop a R.I.S.E. training program for student interns to prepare them to do their field audits. These efforts will help benefit the Hawai`i business community, our students, and ultimately the GLSD program.
