Originally from Cambridge, MA and New York City, Dr. Marek has lived and worked in Honolulu since 1990. He is a human geographer with concentrations in cultural/social, urban, and development geographies, as well as more specific interests in indigenous urbanism and sustainable cities. Dr. Marek received his M.A. and Ph.D. in geography from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and his B.A. in geography from Syracuse University. Current activities include research on indigenous urbanization and urbanisms in Aotearoa New Zealand and Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. He is also the current Program Review Chair for the Masters of Arts in Global Leadership and Sustainable Development.
