Dana Rasch received his PhD in sociology from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. His areas of interest include Latin America, social movements, social justice and community building. He has published a number of manuscripts on various themes including community-based projects and service-learning. Additionally, Rasch is President of the Las Mercedes Project (www.LasMercedesProject.org), a nonprofit grassroots organization that aims to improve healthcare in Latin America through the creation of democratic, participatory and inclusive community-based health and education programs. In 2011, The Las Mercedes Project built a community health center in the city of Huaquillas, Ecuador.
