Minor in Japanese

The Bachelor of Arts Minor in Japanese offered at HPU is an interdisciplinary program of study that enables students to achieve a level of proficiency in the Japanese language adequate for both academic and professional purposes. The Minor stresses the development of effective speaking and writing skills in the language in order to facilitate the students’ ability to converse in Japanese on non-specialized topics and also to aid the student in reading Japanese language materials for research.

Students will examine Japanese society and culture from the Japanese point of view in order to become aware of the problems which can arise when interacting with Japanese due to cultural differences. This will facilitate more effective and meaningful interaction with Japanese through cultural awareness and understanding.

HPU offers undergraduate, degree-seeking students opportunities through our student exchange study abroad program to study Japanese at various sister schools, such as Osaka Gakuin University and Hakodate University
