Dr. Rugen has published numerous journal articles and has presented scholarly papers at international conferences across the world. He has taught at the university level in Japan, Russia, and the U.S. Dr. Rugen completed his Ph.D. in 2009 from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. His dissertation examines the development of Japanese pre-service teachers of English by looking at the use of conversational narratives as rhetorical tools for managing language learner and language teacher identities in talk.
In fall 2010, Dr. Rugen joined Hawai'i Pacific University. He teaches graduate courses in applied linguistics/TESOL and undergraduate composition courses to both native and non-native speakers of English. For more information:
