At HPU, Barbara is the Coordinator of the International Bridge Program and the Coordinator for the Group English Programs. She teaches classes in the IBP and the BA and MA TESOL Programs. She is also the Faculty Athletic Representative.
Barbara earned a BA in English at Luther College and an MA in ESL at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She began her teaching career at Hawai'i Loa College and then at HPU after the merger. She also taught in Japan at Hakodate University and Hokkaido College of Education.
Her research interests include English for Specific Purposes (ESP), content-based instruction, and the connection between relevance and motivation.
Barbara's hobbies include tennis, outrigger canoe paddling, and scuba diving. She spends most of her free time as a "team Mom" for her two sons' baseball, basketball, football and soccer teams.
