Summer 2011 Programs and Scholarships for Eastern Europe
In summer 2011 University of Tartu International Summer University (www.isu.ut.ee) will host the following three to four week study abroad summer programs for international students:
The 3 Universities Summer Program “After the Empire: The Collapse of Communism and Beyond” features a week in three different countries and universities: University of Tartu in Estonia, St.Petersburg State University in Russia and Kyiv- Mohyla Academy in Kiev, Ukraine. The students will learn of three different societies building themselves up after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

“European Integration: the EU from West to East” in cooperation with Utrecht University – students will spend two weeks in the Netherlands learning of the European Union, its history, current aims and future challenges and two weeks in Estonia focusing on the geopolitical situation in the northeast of Europe and Russian foreign policy. In the summer course “European & Russian Foreign Policy and Security Challenges in the New Millennium” the students will learn of European Union foreign policy, enlargement aftermath and security threats originating from transition countries; NATO enlargement challenges and its relations with Russia, including most recent security and foreign policy incidents in the EU and Russia; Russian contemporary foreign policy and its future course by examining power capabilities, political culture and identity questions in today’s Russian Federation.

Summer program “Economies in Turmoil: Threats and Opportunities in the Baltics” focuses on economic development and business climate of the three Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The program has a strong practical emphasis with a total of 18 company visits and discussion meetings with the management, making it 6 different companies in every country. Academic lectures and cultural activities are also part of the program.
